Toyota Yaris destroyed by giant ''stone chip''

Whilst the Toyota brand is slowly recovering from the recall debacle, fortunes for one Yaris owner have not improved after her car was completely flattened by a large rock.

One of the most popular superminis for used car buyers, the new shaped Yaris was parked in the Derbyshire village of Hayfield in the Peak District at the weekend. Despite parking her car on a grass verge in a quiet location, the owner returned to find her car destroyed under a rock weighing in excess of five tonnes.

In an area famed for its stone, a collection lorry filled with rocks drove through the Peak District Village, unfortunately losing one if its largest cargo, which fell on top of the parked Yaris.

The Mirror report a photographer witness commenting that ''the driver said he looked in his mirror and saw the rock slipping, but it was on the car before he could do anything.''

Owner Mrs Hall was unphased by the news saying that when a local informed her about the incident, she had imagined it would be a small rock. Commenting on Elephant.co.uk she said ''I just thought it would be a little stone, but when I saw the size of it, it was a five tonne boulder.''

Remaining calm about the news, Mrs Hall added, ''I've had a lot of things that have happened in my life and this is actually a minor one!''
