Tesla rival unveiled

A Korean car manufacturer claims that its electric supercar will rival that of market leader Tesla.

The LZ-1 supercar, that debuts this year, is produced by Leo Motors will have a driving range equal to the Tesla Roadster (249 miles per battery charge), but it will accelerate to 161 miles per hour.

According to the IB Times, the Roadster's top speed is just 125 mph by comparison.

With speeds like this, supercar enthusiasts may well be thinking: 'I should sell my Porsche for an electric model one day'.

The acceleration isn't bad either. In a press statement, John Lee, Leo Motors CEO, proclaimed: "Our goal is to make the new electric super car drive 0-60 miles per hour from the start within 2.9 seconds.

"If the goal is achieved Leo's new super car would be the fastest among EVs including Tesla."

The LZ-1 is the end result of five painstaking-years of research and includes technologies that have resulted in 56 patent applications.

The Independent additionally reports than an extended-range hybrid model of the LZ-1 is already being planned. The LZ-1H uses hydrogen and LPG to fuel a generator that can extend the electric car's range to 560 miles (900 km).

Leo Motors is a US public company based outside of Seoul, Korea. They are engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of Electric Vehicles (EVs), power trains and components.

The company are currently focusing on opening up their sales network to Australia, Japan, China, Southeast Asia and Europe.
