Spy shots of new Honda Civic released

Pictures of a heavily shrouded Honda Civic have been released, showing the family favourite being driven in heavy rain across the Italian mountains.

With the current Civic launched in 2005, Honda are planning tweaks to the design that still looks cutting-edge in 2010, adding some extra flair and streamlined features.

Sure to attract the attention of those selling a car and looking for a fresh-faced new model, the revamped Civic is expected to be released in 2012, in line with the launch of the VW Golf Mk 7.

According to Car Advice, the new Civic could use a similar hybrid engine to that of the Honda CR-Z. Nevertheless, other sources like Auto Express have announced that the popular Japanese model is to come in turbo-diesel and four cylinder petrol versions, expecting a range of between 80 to 140 bhp for the different engine specs.

As one of the longest-running models in the UK, the new Civic certainly has a lot to live up to. With Honda at the helm however, it is sure to be an upscale version of the compact hatchback.

Initial launch dates were anticipated to be 2011, but as with many unveilings, the date has been pushed back somewhat, keeping eager car buyers waiting.
