Secret BMW revealed
A cloak and dagger marketing campaign has revealed a new weapon in BMW's armoury, a new electric hybrid coupe according to Top Gear.
The German car-makers strategy has involved emblazoning a matte black prototype with the strapline 'dontblogaboutthis.com' inviting curious car fans to visit the site, which features pictures of the mysterious offering.
Guessing that the new model is a knight in shining armour for the green brigade, Top Gear anticipate that the aerodynamically tuned, low resistance wheels will carry an electric/petrol hybrid. Other tell tale signs include a lack of engine noise in a video clip and the prototype looking rather similar to the EfficientDynamics hybrid supercar unveiled last year.
With the Paris Motorshow commencing in October, it seems likely that BMW are attempting to rival Lotus' secretive marketing tactics, by announcing the new model officially at the show, after a series of teaser style PR campaigns. Unlike Lotus, BMW however, seem to be giving little away, choosing to simply reveal images rather than entice buyers with cryptic press releases.
AutoExpress report that the new BMW concept could be in production by 2012, prompting eager car buyers to sell a car for cash to put towards this eco-friendly model.
