Record repair bill for crashed Pagani Zonda

One of the biggest stories to hit motoring news this week, is that of insurance company Aviva paying out an astonishing £300,000 - after a professional driver managed to crash a Pagani Zonda S supercar.

The car, worth in excess of half a million pounds, was completely totalled during a test drive near Aberdeen in September 2009. Metro reports that the car left the road, hit a telegraph poll and went through a fence.

Despite the hefty repair bill, Aviva made the decision that the car was repairable and had it transported back to its makers in Modena, Italy, for some extensive reconstruction surgery.

Only ten of the exclusive Italian models are made every year by the prestigious sportscar firm. Powered by Mercedes AMG, the 555bhp car can reach speeds in excess of 200mph.

Luckily, the owner has avoided a large insurance premium price hike, as the test driver who crashed the car placed the claim. Other luxury car owners may not be so lucky and could be forced to exclaim ''I need to sell my Bentley'' due to extortionate insurance costs.

Aviva announced in a press release to the BBC: ''This is the biggest insurance payout we have had for repairs to a private car in the UK - out of the ordinary for an insurer.''
