Mercedes lift lid on revamped CLS

Luxury manufacturer Mercedes has officially revealed its new four-door CLS, more than a month before the car's debut at the Paris Motor Show.

The original CLS was launched in 2003, and proved a big hit thanks in part to its sleek, distinctive good looks. Photos released this week show that the new model will retain the style of a four-door coupe, but with a longer front end, narrower windows and a more streamlined profile.

Further details of the new model's specification will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show. However, Auto Express report that car buyers will be able to choose between 261bhp 3.5-litre V6 diesel, and V6 and V8 petrol models with 302bhp and 435bhp respectively.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the new CLS is the extensive use of LED lighting. The new addition to the Mercedes range will feature an impressive 71 LED lights, according to What Car?

Mercedes claim that this will give the CLS an unmistakable appearance, and provide drivers with a better view of the road.

Professor Gorden Wagener, head of design at Mercedes-Benz, hinted that the revamped CLS offers an insight into the how future Mercedes models might look. "The new CLS points the way forward for the future design of Mercedes-Benz," he said in a statement.

Pricing details have not yet been announced, but Auto Express suspect that the V6 diesel model will go on sale for around £48,000.
