Lotus supermini unveiled
More well-known for its sporting credentials, car manufacturer Lotus is delving into the small but perfectly formed world of superminis, according to motoring commentators.
With a plethora of new models on the design board, Lotus has been a busy car-maker in recent months. This new 'Global Small Car' will add to existing plans for a revamped Esprit and two front engined GT models. Sources say that it won't be until the Paris Motor Show in October when Lotus announce the full range of new offerings, outlined with a range of marketing materials and a shroud of mystery.
Nevertheless, the new supermini has been rumoured to be based on the Proton EMAS concept which will become a more high class Lotus-badged marque in European markets. Designed by Italdesign Giugiaro, the little car certainly won't lack style and that certain Italian flair. According to Auto Express, the model will excite car buyers with its alloy wheels, sporty front grille, Recaro seats, front LED lights and a hybrid powertrain which provides an impressive 100 mpg.
A prototype is expected to be unveiled to the public in Paris, with production anticipated to be in place by 2012. With a Lotus badge, the supermini should be a real contender in the eco-friendly market.
