Limited edition Maybach coupe announced

Maybach have announced the release of a £560,000 limited edition coupe powered with the same engine as the 57S model.

In a bid to tempt those with a penchant for luxury to sell a car for cash to put towards this Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe competitor, Maybach have enlisted the help of German engineers Xenatech, to revamp a brand that Top Gear associates with ''gentlemen who carry diamond-encrusted canes and wear slightly baggy trousers.''

Maybach are reportedly to produce only 100 of these 2 door Coupe's in their Weinsburg factory, which explains the rather hefty price tag. Spy shots reveal that the Maybach Coupe is to have a custom-chassis, based on its 57S counterpart, but wider and lower to give the classic sedan a sportier appearance.

Autocar report that owners Daimler have had a stake in the design process, with head of in-house styling, Gorden Wagener putting his own stamp on the car. Exterior-wise, the luxury model is to feature 20 inch wheels, a sharply angled windscreen and a reworked grille to reinforce its sportscar credentials.

And what of performance? The Maybach Coupe is to be powered by a Mercedes 6-litre twin engine, boosting owners from 0-60 in 5 seconds and managing a top speed of 170 mph.

With the car getting the green light from Daimler, a release date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
