James Bond Aston Martin to go to auction
After nearly twenty years abandoned in a barn, the anonymous owner of an iconic Aston Martin DB5 has uttered to auctioneers that ''I need to sell my Aston Martin'' after reportedly lacking in funds to restore the car to its former glory.
The DB5 was one of the most expensive and seductive models on the market in the 1960's, commanding prices of between £3000 to £4000. Featuring in James Bond films only increased the DB5's desirability, with only 983 of the handmade models coming out of the Buckinghamshire factory.
This particular DB5 is thought to be a 1964 model, having had only three owners from new and covering a mere 61,000 miles in its 46 year lifespan. According to The Sun, the car was originally a red colour and is left hand drive, but is now sadly covered in rust, with its once decadent interior stripped out.
Auctioneers expect the car to reach in excess of £200,000, but with the cost of restoration, the DB5's price could escalate to £500,000 plus.
Philip Kantor of Bonhams Auctioneers, was cited in Metro as saying of the find: ''I doubt if James Bond would feel happy to drive this in its current state, but once it has been restored, I'm sure he will.''
Kantor speculated on the type of person that will purchase the rare car, commenting: ''People interested in buying it are generally very wealthy collectors.''
