Ian Fleming's old car sells for £80,000 at Goodwood Revival auction

A car which was once owned by James Bond creator Ian Fleming has been sold for £80,000 at auction.

According to The Telegraph, the rare sports car went under the hammer at the Goodwood Revival racing festival near Chichester on Friday. The 1962 AC Aceca Coupe is one of only six surviving Ford-powered Acecas in the world.

As reported by BBC News, the two-seater car, painted dark blue with a red leather interior, was expected to fetch between £100,000 and £130,000.

Reports claim that the car left the factory in Surrey in 1962 after Mr Fleming finished writing the Spy Who Loved Me. It's believed Mr Fleming kept the car for a year before he sold it in 1963.

According to The Telegraph, top prices were paid for other cars that weekend. Perhaps the Revival Festival encouraged people to say: "I'm going to sell my Ferrari and buy a vintage sports car.''

A 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet went for £188,500; a 1938 Lagonda V12 Drophead Couple went for £186,300; and a 1959 Aston Martin DB4 Series 1 Sports Saloon, which was the 26th ever produced, went for £145,600.

"The UK motoring team have experienced an incredibly busy period and emerged with very positive statistics," said James Knight, managing director of Bonhams' motoring department which conducted the auctions.
