Hotter version of the Audi R8 planned
The rumour mill surrounding Audi is working overtime, with motoring circles discussing the possibility of a top of the range GT RS variant of the R8.
According to the team at Auto Express, a barnstorming twin-turbo charged V10 R8 could be on the horizon, with some help from the experts at MTM. After spying a hardcore version of the popular supercar at a garage near the Nurburgring in Germany, motoring commentators anticipate the R8 GT RS could be unveiled soon.
Sporting a pair of go-faster orange stripes, an angry front splitter and huge air intakes, this R8 is not to be messed with. Combined with racing brakes and large twin exhausts, Auto Blog comment that the car could hold over 600bhp of power. Achieving 0-62 in under 3 seconds and whizzing to a top speed of 225mph, this new offering would surely prompt 911 Turbo owners to utter ''I need to sell my Porsche to get my hands on the ultimate R8.''
Nevertheless, the car has been met with some negativity from fans. Comments by Motor Ward indicate that car enthusiasts are worried that the new-found power will ruin the usability of the iconic model, rendering it less convenient to drive, saying ''the RS sounds kinda pointless.''
At a price of around £160,000, ease of use for the school run is unlikely to be on most potential buyers minds. With the success of the R8 achieving giddy heights, a super-powered version is sure to excite die hard Audi fans.
