Hirst art car to be auctioned at Sir Elton John's ball
A car revamped by prominent British artist Damien Hirst is to be auctioned at Sir Elton John's legendary White Tie and Tiara Ball later tonight.
The entirely road legal Audi A1 was splattered artistically with paint by Hirst at his Gloucestershire studio and is to be sold with a 6ft canvas painting, made at the same time as the car was metamorphosed according to the BBC. With a bright pink exterior, the car has been spin pained by Hirst, giving it an entirely individual look that is sure to attract much attention.
The A1 is not to be officially launched to UK car buyers until November, but with a music legend and art luuvie knocking at their door, Audi allowed this one model to be customised and driven prior to the official launch date.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Audi's UK director Jeremy Hicks, commented on the collaboration, saying: ''We are enormously proud to support Sir Elton John's remarkable fund-raising ball for the eighth year in succession with the donation of a priceless and unrepeatable work of art for auction.''
Sir Elton's glamorous auction and party will raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF), established in 1992 by the star.
