Ford slashes prices

Ford is set to reduce its prices by an average of 11 per cent from the beginning of August, with other car-makers likely to follow.

Prompting buyers to sell a car for cash to put towards the Ford range, the car manufacturer has reduced prices across many of its most popular models.

According to Parkers, price reductions range from 5% to 16% off list price, with the new Ford Ka offering a saving of £1,365 for car buyers. The price of a Focus Zetec will also be cut to £15,545 from £18,345, whilst the Fiesta will be reduced to £9,995 down from £11,645.

Auto Express report that such reductions make permanent the Spring reductions offered by Ford, putting pressure on other car manufacturers in a competitive market.

Stepping up to the plate, Toyota is offering 5 year warranties on all its vehicles and Kia is promoting a 7 year switch deal, allowing car buyers to trade in a vehicle of 7-10 years old for £1500 off the list price of a new model. In addition, as reported by SellCar-UK.com, Peugeot is offering a Just Add Fuel lease, covering the cost of insurance, road tax and servicing, with monthly costs from £185.

Managing director of Ford Britain, Nigel Sharp commented to Parkers on the manufacturer's price cut strategy, saying: ''The traditional way that the car industry has operated in the UK - with high recommended list prices matched to high discounts - is causing confusion for consumers.''

''Together with our dealer partners we are determined to change that formula and make the whole purchase process more transparent and the value of cars more obvious.''
