First four-wheel drive Mini unveiled in London
The Mini Countryman has excited car buyers in the capital after it made its British debut at the 2010 Canary Wharf London Motorexpo, according to Auto Trader.
It's the first four door, four-wheel Mini. At three foot longer than the original model, it's also the tallest Mini ever produced, according to Motoring.co.uk.
Auto Express published photos of the car in January, when Mini decided to release press shots of the car after three pictures were leaked. The report claims: "With four-doors and an optional four-wheel drive system, the new car is taking the Mini brand into previously unexplored territory... Despite its chunky off-road design, styling elements of the firm's smaller cars are clearly noticeable, including the high-window line, large head-lamps and upright tail-lights."
The new model boasts an "improved" interior, according to Motoring.co.uk, which can be maximised by folding down the rear two seats. Optional extras include a panoramic roof and high end audio and navigation systems. Brake energy recuperation, a stop/start system and gear change indicator all offer fuel savings on the car, for which prices start at £17,000.
The London Motorexpo is in its 15th year. The free event gives visitors the chance to see the new cars of the year up close and for themselves. CEO Graeme Carver said the Motorexpo "is a unique and free opportunity for everyone to see the latest vehicles many of the world's leading motor manufacturers have to offer". He added: "The Motorexpo has seen its audience figures continually rise and it is estimated that some 400,000 visitors will enjoy our exhibitors' displays at this summer event."
