Fire up the Jaguar

Criminals in the Midlands could be overtaken by the law quicker than they think, after a fleet of high spec Jaguar XF's have been ordered by a specialist police unit.

The Central Motorway Police Group, a unit comprising of police from the West Midlands, Staffordshire and West Mercia forces has purchased 7 Jaguars after carrying out stringent testing procedures.

The police stickered vehicles will reach 60mph in 5.9 seconds, surely beating any stolen hot hatch or many sportscars for that matter. With a top speed of 155mph, the 275bhp 3 litre diesel Jaguars' will be the ultimate high speed chase cars, according to The Times.

The XF's are to be modified before being handed over to the police, with trademark roof mounted blue flashing lights, LED's in the front grille and a full range of hi-tech police equipment, pushing far above the initial £38,600 pricetag.

Such extravagant purchases by UK police forces could prompt Porsche or other luxury brands to consider ''I need to sell my Porsche models to the police.'' As glamorous as supercar powered police sound, it is unlikely that we will see Aston Martin's or Lamborghini's adorned in police livery. Nevertheless, other forces in the country could follow the Midlands lead and embrace the Jaguar XF as an effective tool in high speed pursuits.
