Ferrari to open theme park in Abu Dhabi
Supercar brand Ferrari has announced that it will open its first ever theme park in Abu Dhabi this year.
Planned to be the biggest indoor theme park in the world, Ferrari World is to be sited on Yas Island - next to the Yas Marina circuit, which is home to the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. According to concept designs, the theme park will be covered by a massive canopy - coloured with the iconic Ferrari red and with a shape inspired by the body of the Ferrari GT.
It will cover 200,000 square metres and plans to host the world's fastest roller coaster ride. This ride is expected to reach speeds in excess of 120mph - supposedly emulating the sensation of speed and acceleration given by the brands Formula One car. The supercar theme is to extend to the ride vehicles, which will be shaped like Ferrari cars.
Among the other rides which have been announced is a 'G-Force' experience that will take passengers 62 metres into the air - out of the canopy - before plunging them back down again. There will also be a flume ride which passes through a gigantic representation of a Ferrari 599 engine, as well as several high tech racing car simulators that will supposedly be the same as used by the brand's racing team.
Aside from the rides, Ferrari plans to entice luxury tourists with a range of vintage and contemporary racing memorabilia - as well as importing some fine Italian food into the middle east in the form of two Italian restaurants, said by Which magazine to be "inspired by the real Maranello Food experience."
One other aspect of the park which will likely tie in with the luxury brand - the price! Hopefully though, die hard fans of Ferrari will not be forced to make a choice between "Sell my Ferrari and go to Abu Dhabi" or "keep my Ferrari and settle for Alton Towers".
