Ferrari 599 GTO revealed
The first pictures of the new Ferrari 599 GTO have been released, much to the excitement of sportscar enthusiasts. If you listen very carefully, you may hear current Ferrari owners muttering ''I'm going to sell my Ferrari F430,'' buying the first GTO available for 26 years.
The limited edition model draws its performance from the 599XX, a track only supercar. As you can guess, only 599 will be made and at 661 bhp, it could just be the fastest Ferrari on the road.
Car Magazine reports that to complement the colossal power, the 599 GTO has been on a diet regime to rival a supermodel, weighing in at 1495kg, with a F1 style sequential gearbox, bigger diffuser and F1 Traction control all helping to make the car reach 60mph in an impressive 3.4 seconds.
Alongside mechanical changes, Parkers comment that the new GTO will include aerodynamic wheel donuts and utilise Michelin Supersport tyres to help the car stick to the road.
To keep the eco bunnies happy, the 599 GTO is 4g/km more eco friendly than the standard 599, attributed to its lighter weight. That's settled then, its fast and relatively green... well if you have a rumoured £300,000 to spend anyway.
Initial pictures show the obligatory Ferrari red housing a Virtual Race Engineer (VRE) system and an interior that isn't as basic as you'd expect in a car with such sporting specifications. Nevertheless, the radio and sat nav are not yet present, but who needs music when you have that engine to listen to as Ben Pulman from Car Magazine points out.
