Car signed by Justin Bieber sells for $40,000

A car signed by Justin Bieber was sold $40,000 (£25,400) in an auction on Monday.

CTV.ca report that an anonymous bidder met the reserve price of the red Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 just minutes before the deadline of the week-long auction to walk away with the car.

According to digitaljournal.com, the car would normally sell for the equivalent of £22,500 meaning that the bidder essentially paid an extra £3,000 for Bieber's signature.

The pop superstar signed the car on the dashboard, the sun visor and wrote a small letter of congratulations in a brochure when he visited the Hyundai dealership in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario. The extensive winning bid proves that adding a celebrity signature is a good way of getting extra cash for cars.

The money used to buy the car will be spent on refurbishing a local skate park in Stratford. Bieber himself used to be a keen skater at the park and was especially keen for it to be maintained to its former glory.

The idea for the auction came from the owner of the Hyundai dealership Frank Sandola after he sold a car to Bieber's grandmother late last year.

It was Bieber who decided that the money should be used to refurbish the skate park.
