Bugatti electric supercar prototype released

Bugatti, the makers of the iconic Veyron have built an 800bhp electric supercar, based on the Bentley Continental GT, according to the experts at Auto Express.

It is unclear whether the fully working prototype will be produced in the future, with Bugatti announcing that this prototype has been designed to give engineers an insight into high performance technology, reflecting the company at the cutting edge of design and eco-friendly performance.

Latest reports confirm that the 800bhp prototype is powered by a specialist lithium ion battery pack, combined with two supercharged electric motors that together, produce an astounding 2,200Nm of torque.

It has not been decided whether the car will be unveiled to the public, but with ''Bugatti'' in the name, the prototype is already attracting a smörgåsbord of interest from industry commentators and petrol heads alike.

An Auto Express source describes this cloak and dagger Bugatti as ''absolutely unbelievable,'' nevertheless, as with any supercharged electric vehicle, the issue of battery life comes into the fray, with the source stating that if the car was utilised to its full potential, the charge could only last ''a matter of minutes.'' Still, that would be a few minutes of Bugatti-fuelled joy, that could tempt enthusiasts to part with their cash for cars with similar powerful, yet eco friendly credentials.

Whether the prototype reaches the public eye or not, it is sure to kick-start the production of equally intensive electric cars in the future.
