BMW to challenge the Fiesta
According to recent reports, German car manufacturer BMW is set to produce a front wheel drive supermini to rival the likes of the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo.
Auto Express comment that the new model is likely to be branded as the 0 series and will compete with high end, quality small cars such as the Audi A1. The new model was designed to fulfil the requirements of those buyers that prefer a smaller car, but still want a high calibre, superior driving experience.
Newly released images are sure to excite new car buyers as the model is set to feature the popular BMW kidney grilles, sweeping tailgate and small spoiler. Inside, the car will be equipped with electronic diff and active damping. Such hi-spec features and the BMW badge have elevated the starting price to around £16,000 - a little more than your average Fiesta then...
Despite BMW's reputation for large, fuel consuming cars, the new supermini will have efficiency at its core. Such low carbon emissions will not be generated at the expense of power however, as a 161 bhp 1.5 litre turbo diesel is to be produced using the VisionEfficientDynamics Concept. In addition, Auto Express believe that a solely electric version will be available after the model's rumoured initial release in 2013.
