BMW owners regarded 'worst drivers' according to survey

German car manufacturer BMW has the highest reputation in terms of build quality, design and innovation, but according to results from a recent survey, drivers of the exclusive marque are seen as some of the worst.

A poll on a used car sales website found that BMW drivers were thought to be aggressive on the road and more likely to suffer from road rage than owners of other makes such as Toyota or Fiat.

According to the survey, Volvo and Ford motorists came a close second to BMW drivers and were also seen as rude on the road. Taxi drivers, the elderly and Mum's taking their children to school were also seen as some of the big offenders, according to The Independent.

In terms of location, the 1,000 respondents surveyed believed motorists in the South-East and London showed the most signs of bad driver behaviour.

Gender also played a part, with less than a quarter of those polled stating that women were more efficient drivers than men. Nevertheless, figures on the sex or location of respondents have not been released, so it is unclear as to whether the survey was skewed or not.

It is unlikely that the results of this light-hearted poll will deter buyers from parting with their cash for cars, but it offers an explanation for popular stereotypes.

Rob Queen, marketing manager for the survey, commented to The Independent: ''BMW drivers unfortunately are left tarnished with the same brush, due to a minority of drivers - just saying thanks for being let through a space by another driver will score several brownie points and takes no effort at all.''
