An eco Lotus... Pardon?
Yes its true, sportscar legends Lotus have announced that they are to produce an eco friendly model. Rather than choosing to make a Prius or Leaf counterpart, the British car manufacturer is to launch a green makeover of its ever popular Lotus Elise.
As with Elise's of recent years, the new model offers a range of specifications, from a 1.6 litre R and SC version, to a 1.8 litre Toyota based engine offering 134bhp and achieving an impressive 45mpg. The new spec Elise produces 149g/km of CO2 in comparison to the 118bhp, 168g/km first generation Elise.
These specs certainly show that the Elise is not the fastest decent priced sportscar on the market, reaching a top speed of 127mph; nor is it the most eco friendly car when compared to the likes of the Prius. However, the Elise is one of the least petrol guzzling sporty cars on the market, offering style and economic benefits - a sure way to please car buyers.
Top Gear certainly approves of the car, saying after a test drive ''four hours of roof down hoonage around the South Downs and the Elise's petrol guage stands at three quarters full.''
So sell your car for cash to put towards the Elise, because you won't find such a fun and eco friendly driving experience. Two words that until now, have not been synonymous.
