60mph human-powered car could go on sale next year
A human-powered car that can hit speeds of up to 60mph could go on sale as early as next year, according to reports.
Car buyers wishing to purchase the HumanCar Imagine PS may not have to wait much longer to get their hands on the human-electric hybrid. The vehicle will go into production when its creator receives 800 pre-orders, and with interest thought to be high, it could only be a matter of months before the first roadworthy Imagine PS rolls out of the workshop.
The car was the idea of engineer Charles Greenwood, who has spent more than 40 years developing the ultimate human-powered vehicle. According to Mail Online, the car seats four people, can run on hand or electric battery power, and can hit top speeds of up to 60mph on flat terrain.
The Imagine PS will cost around £10,000, with an all-weather roof, touch-screen display and air bags currently being developed for future models.
Environmental blog TG Daily report that the Imagine PS achieves energy efficiency through regenerative braking and advanced power systems. The vehicle also features 'body-steering' rather than a conventional steering wheel.
Mr Greenwood is positive that he can make a commercial success out of the Imagine PS, but stressed that pre-order payments are essential if it is to sell for an affordable price.
He told TG Daily: "We are an independent company with no outside funding, so the reservations are the building blocks to delivering these vehicles to you at just $15,500 (£10,000)."
"We are self-funded, own our facility and over 100 pre-orders exist for the Imagine PS. We are essentially profitable right now," Mr Greenwood added.
